Pharmacological Mechanism

Selective α1-adrenergic blocker — relaxes vascular + prostate smooth muscle. Used for hypertension (less first-line since ALLHAT showed worse HF outcomes than thiazides) + symptomatic BPH. First-dose orthostatic hypotension; bedtime dosing recommended.
