Pharmacological Mechanism

Glycosylated apocarotenoid (crocin-1 = trans-crocetin di(β-D-gentiobiosyl) ester). The dominant water-soluble pigment in Crocus sativus stigma. Antidepressant signal in clinical trials (typical dose 30 mg saffron extract standardized to ≥2% crocins). Mechanism via 5-HT + NMDA + BDNF modulation.
