Pharmacological Mechanism

Hydroxypyridone antifungal — chelates polyvalent metal cations (Fe³⁺, Al³⁺) blocking fungal mitochondrial enzymes. Topical for tinea + nail-lacquer formulation for onychomycosis. Slow nail-bed delivery requires 6-12 month course.
