Pharmacological Mechanism

Thiazide-like diuretic — inhibits Na+/Cl- cotransporter (NCC) in distal convoluted tubule like HCTZ but with much longer half-life (~50h). ALLHAT and SHEP outcome data showed lower CV mortality vs HCTZ in some analyses; preferred over HCTZ in some hypertension guidelines.
