Monoterpenoid phenol with a pungent oregano aroma; the main constituent of oregano and thyme oils (isomeric with thymol). Strong broad-spectrum antimicrobial and antioxidant; an agonist of the warmth-sensing TRPV3 and TRPA1 channels, mediating skin sensitization and endothelium-dependent vasodilation. TRP potencies are characterized but TRP channels are outside the registry receptor-key set.
