Beta-Caryophyllene

Category: terpenoid

Aliases: BCP, β-Caryophyllene, (−)-trans-caryophyllene

Pharmacological Mechanism

Only dietary terpene confirmed as a selective CB2 receptor agonist (Ki ~155 nM, no measurable CB1 activity) — escapes the 'psychoactive cannabinoid' regulatory category while retaining peripheral anti-inflammatory and analgesic effects. Also activates PPARα and γ. Present in cannabis (explains entourage overlap), black pepper, clove, hops.
