Designed by Richard Veech's group. Gut-hydrolysis yields 1,3-butanediol (→ liver → BHB) + two acetoacetate molecules. Unique among exogenous ketones in raising AcAc (and thus shifting the AcAc/BHB ratio toward more oxidised state). Theoretical advantage for metabolic endpoints that depend on mitochondrial NAD⁺/NADH balance.
