Pharmacological Mechanism

β-lactam — inhibits transpeptidase (PBP) crosslinking peptidoglycan in bacterial cell wall. Broader gram-negative coverage than penicillin. Renally cleared; no CYP. Allergy cross-reactivity with cephalosporins.
