Pharmacological Mechanism
Carbonic anhydrase inhibitor — blocks proximal tubule HCO3- reabsorption + reduces aqueous humor production + reduces CSF production. Used for glaucoma, altitude sickness prophylaxis, idiopathic intracranial hypertension. Metabolic acidosis + paresthesias common.
