Also known as enterocytes, these are tall, columnar epithelial cells lining the villi of the small intestine, specialized for nutrient absorption.
Key Functions:
- Primary site of nutrient absorption in the small intestine.
- Possesses a brush border of microvilli to increase surface area.
- Involved in the digestion and transport of carbohydrates, proteins, and lipids.
