Single-walled tubes were reported independently in 1993 by Sumio Iijima's NEC group and Donald Bethune's IBM team.
The chiral (n,m) roll-up vector determines whether a tube is metallic or semiconducting, with about one-third of random chiralities metallic.
In 2019 MIT researchers built RV16X-NANO, a functional 16-bit RISC-V microprocessor containing over 14,000 carbon-nanotube transistors.
