Caelum (The Chisel)
One of the smallest and faintest constellations of the southern sky.
Core Principles & Analysis
Lacaille created it around 1752 as the sculptor's chisel, one of his instrument constellations.
At 125 square degrees it is among the ten smallest of the 88 constellations.
It has no deep-sky object bright enough to interest small telescopes, a rarity for any constellation.
