Cerebral Hemispheres
The two major halves of the cerebrum, separated by the longitudinal fissure, each responsible for contralateral body control and specialized cognitive functions.
Key Functions:
- Control contralateral side of the body.
- Left hemisphere: typically dominant for language, logic, and analytical tasks.
- Right hemisphere: typically dominant for spatial reasoning, creativity, and emotional processing.
- Contain the cerebral cortex and subcortical structures.
Interacting Systems & Components:
- Cerebral Cortex (outer layer)
- Corpus Callosum (connects the two hemispheres)
- Basal Ganglia (subcortical structures within)
- Thalamus (receives and sends projections from/to)
- Lateral Ventricle (located within each hemisphere)
