Epithalamus
The most dorsal part of the diencephalon, containing the pineal gland and habenular nuclei, involved in circadian rhythms, emotional responses, and olfactory reflexes.
Key Functions:
- Contains the pineal gland, which secretes melatonin (regulates sleep-wake cycles).
- Houses the habenular nuclei, involved in reward processing and aversion.
- Connects the limbic system to other parts of the brain.
