Cytotoxic T-Lymphocyte
A type of T-lymphocyte (lymphocyte) that recognizes and kills target cells, such as virus-infected cells and cancer cells, playing a critical role in cell-mediated immunity.
Key Functions:
- Identifies and eliminates infected or cancerous cells.
- Recognizes antigens presented by MHC class I molecules.
- Induces apoptosis in target cells.
Interacting Systems & Components:
- T-lymphocyte (type of)
- Immune System (key effector cell)
- Major Histocompatibility Complex (MHC class I, recognizes antigens presented by)
- Antigen (recognizes)
