Annulus Fibrosus Cell
Cells found in the outer, fibrous ring of the intervertebral disc (annulus fibrosus), primarily responsible for synthesizing and maintaining the collagen and elastin fibers that provide tensile strength and flexibility to the disc.
Key Functions:
- Produces collagen type I and elastin.
- Provides tensile strength and resistance to torsional forces for the intervertebral disc.
- Organized in concentric lamellae.
Interacting Systems & Components:
- Intervertebral Disc (component of)
- Collagen (produces)
- Elastin (produces)
- Musculoskeletal System (part of)
