Synoviocyte
Cells lining the synovial membrane of joints, responsible for producing synovial fluid, which lubricates the joint and provides nutrients to articular cartilage.
Key Functions:
- Produces hyaluronic acid and lubricin, components of synovial fluid.
- Maintains joint lubrication and reduces friction.
- Provides nutrients to avascular articular cartilage.
- Involved in joint homeostasis and inflammation.
Interacting Systems & Components:
- Synovial Membrane (lines)
- Synovial Fluid (produces)
- Joint (component of)
- Musculoskeletal System (part of)
