Cells found in fibrocartilage, possessing characteristics of both fibroblasts and chondrocytes, responsible for producing collagen type I and II, and maintaining the fibrocartilaginous matrix.
Key Functions:
- Synthesizes collagen types I and II.
- Maintains the extracellular matrix of fibrocartilage.
- Provides tensile strength and resistance to compression.
