Clara Cell
Also known as club cells, these non-ciliated secretory cells are found in the bronchioles of the lungs, responsible for secreting components of the airway fluid, detoxifying inhaled toxins, and acting as progenitor cells.
Key Functions:
- Secretes components of the airway fluid (e.g., Clara cell secretory protein).
- Detoxifies inhaled xenobiotics via cytochrome P450 enzymes.
- Acts as progenitor cells for ciliated epithelial cells in the bronchioles.
Interacting Systems & Components:
- Bronchiole (located in)
- Lung (component of)
- Cytochrome P450 (contains)
- Respiratory System (component of)
